Letter to Václav Černý (1945)
You have again done so much for Dagmar, and thus for me, that my head spins just thinking of the mountains of moral obligations you have piled on me. There is simply no one like you. Tomorrow Dagmar will start working under Dr. Procházka at the Ministry of Information.
I heard today that the first issue of your periodical is already in the works. I do not have the courage to submit any of my larger works, but I am sending an excerpt from my Kniha o češtině (A Book on the Czech Language). I wrote it as a memento during a period of the deepest darkness, when anxiety about everything gripped me even more than the idea of a gas chamber for people.
And as I prepare the book for printing now, I feel that even today this chapter is not such an achronism.
I have therefore enclosed it for your kind consideration
6 Jun. 45
Sincerely yours,
Pavel Eisner
